Dr. Carlito Lebrilla Induced into National Academy of Inventors
Davis, CA — UC Davis Distinguished Professor Dr. Carlito Lebrilla has been recognized as one of the nation’s leading innovators with his election as a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), the highest professional distinction awarded solely to academic inventors. The honor recognizes researchers whose inventions have demonstrated a tangible impact on society through advances in science, technology, and commercialization. Dr. Lebrilla was among 185 inventors selected for the 2025 class of NAI Fellows, joining a distinguished group of innovators whose work has transformed research into real-world applications.
Dr. Lebrilla, Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Molecular Medicine at the University of California, Davis, has pioneered analytical chemistry techniques that reveal the molecular complexity of compounds involved in diet, maintaining health and disease progression. His research has also led to advances in analytical tools and to help probe carbohydrates.
Dr. Lebrilla formally received his NAI Fellow medal during the National Academy of Inventors’ 15th Annual Conference, held June 1–4, 2026, in Los Angeles, California. The recognition highlights not only Dr. Lebrilla’s scientific achievements, but also the collaborative efforts of the students, postdoctoral scholars, and research partners who have contributed to his laboratory’s success.
