UC Davis Featured at the 74th ASMS Annual Conference
Davis, CA — Researchers from the UC Davis Innovation Institute for Food and Health (IIFH) and the Pharm to Food Initiative made an impact at the 74th Annual Conference of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS), one of the world's premier gatherings for mass spectrometry research and innovation. The conference brought together scientists, industry leaders, and technology developers to showcase advances in analytical chemistry, biomedical research, food science, and biotechnology.
A major highlight of this year's meeting was the continued leadership of Dr. Carlito Lebrilla, Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Molecular Medicine at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Lebrilla currently serves as Vice President for Programs of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry and is set to serve as President of the organization beginning July 2026. This leadership role reflects his longstanding contributions to the field of mass spectrometry and his influence on shaping the future direction of one of the discipline's most important scientific societies. ASMS presidents serve after completing a two-year term as Vice President for Programs, helping guide scientific programming, conferences, and strategic initiatives for the society.
In addition to Dr. Lebrilla's leadership recognition, Pharm to Food showcased its interdisciplinary research at ASMS through scientific presentations highlighting the use of advanced mass spectrometry and computational tools to better understand food composition and human health. Pharm to Food’s work reflects a growing effort to integrate analytical chemistry, nutrition science, microbiome research, and data science to accelerate discoveries that can improve health outcomes and support the development of more personalized nutrition strategies.
The conference provided an opportunity for researchers, trainees, and collaborators to share new findings, engage with the broader scientific community, and explore emerging technologies that continue to expand the capabilities of mass spectrometry. For Pharm to Food and UC Davis researchers, participation at ASMS reinforces the institution's commitment to interdisciplinary innovation and translational science.
As mass spectrometry continues to play an increasingly important role in food and health research, UC Davis remains at the forefront of the field through the work of scientists like Dr. Lebrilla and the collaborative efforts of initiatives such as Pharm to Food. Their contributions help advance a deeper understanding of the molecular foundations of nutrition, disease, and human health while training the next generation of researchers who will shape the future of scientific discovery.
